While there are currently no professional licensing or certification requirements for tutors, they can complete voluntary certification programs to improve their skills, move to new subject areas, or start their own private tutoring businesses. Tutors are not required to have a teaching license. However, it is recommended that you at least have a college degree or higher form of education. Tutors don't need to register as a company, but you should consider getting a teaching license if you plan to teach.
You'll earn business income if you accept money for tutoring. If you receive any unearned income, you must report it on your tax return and pay appropriate social security, state and local taxes. The registration of the company does not need to be carried out by tutors who operate as sole proprietorships or companies.
