What do tutors expect from students?

Be as specific as possible about what you hope to achieve in the Mentoring session. Ask questions and listen to suggestions. Try to do your homework on your own before taking it to a tutor for help; a tutor can't do their job for you. Students also like the idea of receiving personalized attention in one-on-one sessions, allowing the tutor to focus on their progress.

The tutors, as described above, are actually doing student homework for themselves, which is a disservice to the students. Then I used Socratic-type tutoring and slowly the girl began to think critically and analytically and her test scores and self-esteem improved. The reality is that many students want to have a tutor, since it's “great to have someone tell you how to solve a problem when you don't know how to solve it yourself. In ancient Greece, at the time of Plato and Socrates, the children of the rich were educated individually or in small groups by teachers or tutors.

I would add that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves and help or guide them to the point where they become independent students and therefore no longer need a tutor. In small groups or, more commonly, one-on-one, tutors use communication skills, encouragement, and creativity to help students understand and resolve their questions. The most important thing is whether the tutor received professional training in mentoring practices and if he knows how to effectively tutor. Parents are happy because their child wants to have a tutor, meets with the tutor, homework grades are improving.

A tutor helps students learn outside the classroom, either online through a virtual meeting space or in person. Most of the students taking the class are outstanding students who like or love mathematics, not necessarily math students, and most of them taught mathematics in the past. Tutoring sessions are walk-in and students are served in the order of their arrival, as tutors are available. One day the student asked me for an extension of the assignment, since, as she told me, her tutor was sick and as a result the student could not do homework, not even a problem.

For tutors, helping students excel and preparing them for college entrance exams brings its own reward. Some tutors seem to be less helpful and supportive, and give the feeling of trying to stay away from students. Tutors can work independently and advertise their own services, meet at home or in the library; or work for tutoring companies, schools and universities that meet with students in academic support centers. Through personal contact with their tutors, they can connect with their department and the university, obtain information from an internal person, and establish a bridge between their communications.
